For my very first Google+ hangout I spoke on the panel as a Social Media expert for an HOA (Hangeout on Air) for SMGDenver and I had a blast! Lots of great information was shared. If you are looking to generate leads through social media, or looking to create an online business community with your existing social media platforms, this video is a great place to start.
Happy to answer any questions, so feel free to leave them in the comment section below.
I’ll say “lots of information was shared!” This conversation touched on so many important points about how businesses can use social media – not necessarily to build business, but rather, to build relationships – which, IMHO, is the purpose of social media.
Merhia, for this being your first hangout, you came off as a real pro. Here are some time stamps for sections in which you and John Harris made incredible contributions (time stamps are hyperlinked if you view on Youtube):
09:49 – Merhia: her experience on Facebook; Meetup groups
17:20 – Merhia – complements are her way of engaging with the community
18:30 – John – Integrity as a core value is reflected in their online presence; they connect with people with whom they resonate; the element of attraction complements authenticity
27:06 – Meriah – Connect with other companies in your region through their digital platforms. Become an asset within your industry. Combine digital engagement with IRL engagement.
30:31 – Merhia – As a business, they have several individuals that post, but share a voice. Collaborating is part of their purpose.
33:57: – John – Defines a persona as visualizing your market; describing your ideal client. Personas are a guiding force.
39:40 – John – Personas of your perfect client in each segment of your market; social media creates opportunity for building relationships with people (not for building businesses); social proof that can help generate leads
54:37 – Merhia – closing remarks. Consistency, consistency, consistency.
56:04 – John – closing remarks. Lack of consistency results in irrelevancy. Facebook will actually reduce your visibility for you. Google looks at engagement as an indicator of authority.
Wow Debi! Thank you for such a detailed follow-up. Your willingness to help others find the important bits speaks loudly about who you are. I imagine your clients really appreciate your helpful nature. Please share any suggestions or experiences you have that will add to the conversation. Looking forward to seeing you at the next event!
Debbie! WOW is right! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I know this will be helpful to so many people who are short on time and just want the nitty gritty. I am looking forward to the next one.
