Bob Reed
I have been in the photographic industry almost as long as ants have been building ant colonies. My father introduced me to the photographic arts at the age of 14. I can remember the first time I saw a black & white image being developed in a tray—seeing the image appear on that blank piece of paper was absolute magic! I was hooked from that point on. So, by the time I went into the military as a Navy Photographer, I was probably one of the youngest people to ever own three Leica cameras!
I started this business with my wife and co-partner, Betty, in 1976 in our basement in Lakewood, Colorado, under the corporate name of Reed Photo Art. Back then the industry was exclusively film and I was an expert film and transparency retouch artist. In the mid 1990’s we embraced the arrival of the Digital Revolution by changing our name to Reed Photo Imaging. But, a few years ago we recognized the changes taking place in our industry and changed our name a third time to Reed Art & Imaging to better reflect the fine art clientele we continue to serve and the products we proudly produce. We are not a traditional photo lab like we were 35 years ago, but have evolved to serve the fine art community. I believe we have built one of the finest Print-making studios in the country
I have seen our industry go through incredible changes since we opened our doors over 40 years ago. In order to navigate the challenges brought on during decades of industry and economic ups and downs, I have had to be a person of vision and resolve. As a result, I earned a Doctorate degree from the “University of Hard Knocks”. As the owner of this great and creative company, I have had to wear many hats—leader, innovator, visionary, teacher, mentor, even janitor. I have always been a hands-on owner, and love answering the phone or helping customers who come through the front door. I’m still involved in the day-to-day operations because I still have the passion for what I started in 1976. I enjoy being a daily resource of information, not only for our artistic creative team, but also for our valued customers who come in or call to discuss their special project.
Because I’m usually the first one here in the morning and the last to leave, some think that I never leave this place. But, I do enjoy spending time in my backyard, sitting at the edge of my Koi pond feeding the Koi and having a cup of coffee. People always ask me when I’m going to retire. Never! I love this company and can’t think of anything else I’d rather do!

I was born in Minnesota and moved to Colorado as a teenager and have always been interested in mathematics and science. As a kid, remote controlled airplanes fascinated me. I attended Colorado State University as a Physics major and eventually changed course to received my degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Colorado at Denver. I write computer programs for mobile devices and our interactive consumer website, SignsForYourLife.com. I love sorting out puzzles, which explains why I’m also one of the guys who fixes the computers.
Married and the Father of three children, I am one of the owners and President of Reed Art & Imaging.

Twelve years as a high school teacher was the perfect preparation for my position at Reed Art & Imaging as the Personal Assistant to the company president: Kim Reed. Teaching teenagers was a good proving ground for me to stay organized and on-task with even the most demanding of projects. I was initiated very early into the digital publishing industry in the 1980s as I began a career in writing, publishing, editing, photographic arts, desktop publishing, and graphic design. But it wasn’t until an opportunity to become a private high school yearbook and newspaper adviser that I discovered a passion for teaching. Something that I am very proud of is that those two scholastic publications were consistent award winners every year during my time as adviser. Those years as a teacher helped me develop perspective, patience, and respect for people, which I believe have been the most important tools in my drawer as I interact with Reed guests and employees everyday in person, via phone or on the Web. I love the personal aspect of my job, getting to know artists and photographers from all over the globe, and being a trusted part of their creative process.
One of the things that I love about working at Reed is the family atmosphere. Those of us who work here are considered family, as are so many of our customers, too. So, when I’m not working beside my Reed family, you’ll likely find my husband and me surrounded by our noisy clan of daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and a gaggle of young people who have claimed us as their own. So, on any given Sunday, if you find yourself in our neighborhood, drop on in! There’s always room for one more at our dinner table.
